Following is information that is provided on the National Spanish Exam website (www.nationalspanishexam.org). We are Reprinting the “NSE Registration” procedure as a REMINDER that registration has begun (November 1, 2008 thru January 31, 2009).

 14.  How does a teacher register students for the exam?

There are three easy steps to registering students for the National Spanish Examination.

STEP ONE: Each teacher will register online only once by filling out the Online Registration Form. On this form, teachers will provide:

teacher name and AATSP number

school information

names, levels and categories of students taking exam at each level

ALSO FOR 2009: Teachers may pay their AATSP dues along with their NSE exam fees by using the NSE online registration form. The deadline for Teacher Registration is January 31, 2009.

PLEASE NOTE: The Registration Form will not be available online after January 31, 2009.

STEP TWO: When teachers submit the Online Registration Form, an invoice will be generated automatically and will list the number of exams ordered and the amount owed.  This e-mail will be sent automatically to (1) the registering teacher, (2) the chapter coordinator, and (3) the NSE National Office. Teachers should PRINT OUT this e-mail.NOTE. Teachers are obligated to pay the amount due for exams ordered by February 1, 2009. Any payment not postmarked by February 1, 2009 will be charged a late fee of $2 per examination.

STEP THREE: Teachers are to MAIL a copy of the e-mail invoice from step two along with a CHECK made payable to NATIONAL SPANISH EXAMINATIONS to:

NSE Registration
AATSP Office
900 Ladd Rd.
Walled Lake, MI 48390

NOTE: Checks are NOT to be mailed to local coordinators.

AATSP dues may be paid at the same time that teachers register their students (see above). However, if teachers prefer to pay their AATSP dues separately, they may do so in one of the following three ways:

   Online -  Visit the AATSP Website
   By fax – print out the following AATSP Membership Dues Form and fax to:
                 (248) 960-9570
   By mail – print out the following AATSP Membership Dues Form and mail to:
                AATSP
                 900 Ladd Rd.
                 Walled Lake, MI 48390

 LATE REGISTRATIONS:

There will be a late registration period from February 15 – February 28, 2009, for teachers who miss the regular registration. Teachers are to follow the same process as above; however, THERE IS A $2 LATE FEE PER EXAMINATION.

The above information comes from the National NSE web page.

Content of the 2009 NSE e-mail follows

Dear Colleagues,

The National Organization has asked that we contact all our Chapter members with the following preliminary 2009 National Spanish Exam (NSE) information.

1. Teachers MUST PAY FOR THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT THEY REGISTER TO TAKE THE EXAM

When a teacher registers a student, Quia immediately assigns a Username and Password for that student and at the same time Quia AUTOMATICALLY CHARGES the national office a fee for the registered student.

2. NO REFUNDS will be issued as we cannot absorb the cost by refunding money for exams not taken. Teachers may ADD students to their registration lists and they may SUBSTITUTE students on their registration lists but they may not DELETE students on their registration lists.

3. Online registration will begin on November 1 and will end on January 31.

4. The exam window will open on March 1 and will close on April 10.

 5. Please visit NSE website at www.nationalspanishexam.org for any information that you may need for the NSE

Lastly, if you have not done so already, it is time to renew your membership. You can do this online by going to www.aatsp.org and clicking on the “Membership” tab. (Credit cards are accepted). If you have colleagues who are NEW Spanish teachers or not members as yet, please share the above information with them. They can “JOIN” by going to www.aatsp.org and clicking on the “Membership” tab.

We strongly recommend that you

1) renew or join BEFORE you register students for the NSE or

2) renew your membership or join WHEN you register students for the NSE.

This avoids a lot of confusion and work for everyone (teachers, chapter coordinators, and the national office).

Total cost per student $6     ($3 for National, $3 for Local Chapter)

———————————————————————-

The National Office has recommended we deliver NSE scores to you via e-mail rather than use “snail mail.” So in the Spring of 2009 when NSE results arrive they will be e-mailed to you.

In an effort to make this delivery efficient we will be doing a trial e-mail with an attachment. The purpose of the trial e-mail is to confirm you are able to receive the NSE results. We will let you know when to “expect” the trial e-mail.
