“Did you know? The Kuna Indians of central America drink four cups of cocoa a day – and have a 10 times lower risk of heart disease and 5 times lower risk of cancer than their neighbors who don’t drink cocoa!” – From Women’s World Magazine
We have an article about the Kuna Indians and a link to some photos as well. Visit our “Resources” page for the information.

To quote latomatina.com “La Tomatina festival in Spain gives new meaning to the expression ‘playing with your food’. For most of the year Bunol is a ho-hum industrial town, 40km (25mi) from Valencia, quietly going about its own business. But come the last Wednesday of August, the town’s streets turns into a salsa riot, with over 20,000 revellers pelting each other with large, red, squishy tomatoes.”

Some of our members were very interested in the video links for the “Running of the Bulls” and wanted to download some the videos posted for use in class in the fall. To facilitate this task one of our members provides a .pdf file, entitled “YouTube video download.” This document can be found on our “4Teachers” page.

As we count down the last few days of the school year we evaluate what lessons worked well, and why, and identify some lessons that didn’t go as well as we had expected. Our focus is to discover new ways of presentation to improve the not so great lessons.
Let’s look at a possible example. Did you try to video tape students in the classroom and have it turn out unrewarding for you and the students? Do you recall all the scheduling required to reserve the video camera, the set-up time, and the pressure to complete the videotaping in the given period? Well, perhaps those days are over.
We present you with a product which has been on the market for two years and is now in its second generation (newer models). The product is a Flip camera/camcorder. The weight is approximately 6 oz., it’s pocket size, has a self contained USB port to hook-up to your computer, uses AA batteries (or you can pay approx. $25 for a rechargeable battery – only recharges while attached to your computer), has built in editing software and permits uploading to YouTube and other sites besides permitting you to create a CD/DVD. AND, it’s relatively cheap! (depending on which Flip you decide to purchase).
There are several different types of Flip cameras but the good news is that they are sold at places like “Best Buy” so you can eyeball it, touch it and ask questions of the vendors.
Sound interesting? Wouldn’t you love to have a Flip, pull it out of your pocket, or purse, click and start recording instantly?
If we have peaked your interest, please visit our “4Teachers” page for some links that will provide you with reviews, video clips and additional information on this camera/camcorder. This MAY be something you want to research during the summer. Until then, a happy and healthy summer to all. May it be restful and rewarding!
Our thanks to Larry Ferlazzo’s Blog (June 5, 2009) where we first “heard” about this camera and obtained some of the informational links.
Please visit out “4Teachers” page for the links.

On Wednesday, June 3rd, approximately 300 students, teachers and family members gathered at Jericho HS to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of LI’s outstanding Spanish students. 120 students were presented with ORO medallions for their performance on the National Spanish Exam. Several students were awarded plaques and checks for their entries in our chapter’s Victor Baptiste Essay Contest. This year’s recipient of the Judy Abrams Scholarship was a senior from Garden City HS.
To facilitate the posting and viewing of photographs taken at our many activities, we are starting a new page entitled Photo Gallery. Please visit the “Photo Gallery” for the photographs of the Reception.
